On February 17, 2019, Centaur Rising lost another beloved school horses, Sage, who was over 30 years old.
Sage was donated to Centaur Rising in 2014. He had been abandoned by previous owners who were moving away. Michele White rescued Sage, but could not keep him, due to his requirements for special feed at his advanced age. Jim Cooper since kept Sage healthy, constantly monitoring his welfare. He was kept indoors at night year round and blanketed at night in the wintertime.
In the beginning Sage was dead-eyed and seemed to have given up on life. He since blossomed with the love of both youth and adult riders, who showered him with affection. His youngest rider has been age two and the oldest age 73. He won the high-point junior exhibitor award at the Centaur Rising Dressage Show I in 2015. He earned Century Club awards for two riders.
Sage learned a lot at Centaur Rising. When he came, he had indefinite gaits. He refused to turn left. But,even in his 30's Sage learned how to not only turn left but do circles to the left as well. He learned to leg yield and do shoulder in equally to the left and to the right.
Sage was an excellent school horse. He gave confidence to many. He was a superb trail horse. He gave nearly 800 lessons in the 4.5 years he lived at Centaur Rising. We will miss him greatly.
We are grateful to t hose who have made donations in Sage's memory. These include Gigi & Kaitlyn Orton, Patrick & Dana McAllister, Jason & Annette Moore and Lisa & Isabela Clark. Thank you so very much. You too can honor Sage's memory here. Thank you!

Alyssa McGinley Been having a really hard time creating a post here for it because it makes it too real. This sweet horse gave Shaylee McMillan so much confidence and joy in recent years. I think he will always be THAT one horse that changed her life. I'm so sad for everybody in the Centaur Rising family because there are many who will greatly miss him. But it makes it feel closer to home when you have to tell your daughter that her baby boy has gotten his wings. Sage, thank you for taking such good care of my sweet Shaylee and loving her. We will miss you so much.
Cristina Burk Sage was a beautiful soul.
Shelby Faith McGinley We'll all really miss him he was such a good boy. So sorry...
Jamie Troxel Waddell So sorry, what a beautiful horse! You can see the kindness in his eyes.
